EASTERN SHOSHONE RAPID WORD COLLECTION

This August, The Language Conservancy connected with Elders, speakers, and knowledge keepers of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe in Fort Washakie, Wyoming for a Rapid Word Collection (RWC) event. A team of TLC linguists traveled to the Wind River Reservation to assist with recording words and phrases. Elders and speakers collectively added 1,712 new words and phrases to their linguistic database during this event. The aim is to create a dictionary and other various language learning resources for generations of future speakers.

Eastern Shoshone Elders also used this event as an opportunity to reconnect with members of their community, including Elders Vivian Armajo and Zedora Teton Enos, the great-granddaughters of the first Chief Washakie.
