Two Lakota Language Weekends kick off April

Social distancing has presented some new challenges, but The Language Conservancy has adapted to these times by moving events to virtual platforms. The inaugural Virtual Lakota Language Weekend was April 4th & 5th. The response was so great that TLC hosted the second Virtual Lakota Language Weekend on Mountain Time. Check the "Upcoming Events" section at the end of the newsletter for details on the third Virtual Lakota Language Weekend.

Upcoming Events

May 16-17 Virtual Lakota Language Weekend-Mountain Time

The first two Virtual Lakota Language Weekends were met with such excitement that there will be a third Virtual Lakota Language Weekend! Like the second Virtual LLW, this will be on Mountain Time. 
This language weekend will be focused on beginner learners. Teenagers 14 and older are welcome to join.

May 23-24 Dakota Virtual Language Weekend

The first ever Dakota Virtual Language Weekend will take place May 23-24 online. TLC in partnership with Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye will host this virtual learning event for beginner speakers of the Santee Dakota language. 

May 26-29 San Carlos Apache Summer Institute Online

The San Carlos Apache Tribe, Arizona State University, and The Language Conservancy are excited to announce that the 2nd Annual San Carlos Apache Summer Institute will take place virtually! From May 26-29, students will gather online with Apache language instructors for four days of Apache language learning. CEU credits will be available through the San Carlos Apache College.

June 1-12 Lakota Summer Institute South Online

The first ever Lakota Summer Institute South Online will take place June 1-12 online. Instructors have been hard at work adapting their curriculum to the online environment. Registration filled up quickly, and we're very excited about this event.

June 8-19 Crow Summer Institute Online

Little Big Horn College and TLC are excited to introduce the first Crow Summer Institute Online. This institute features courses for beginner learners and Crow teachers. Sign up today!

July 6-17 Lakota Summer Institute North Online

Lakota Summer Institute North will also be moving to the online format at a greatly reduced cost for students. From July 6-17, Lakota learners can get all the great language education they have come to expect from LSIN at a fraction of the price. Sign up now to save your spot!

July 27-31 August 3-7 Dakota Online Summer Institute

Join Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye, Concordia College, and The Language Conservancy at the very first Dakota Summer Institute. This virtual learning event will focus specifically on Santee Dakota. Both beginner and pre-intermediate learners will find courses suitable for them. For Dakota language teachers, this institute will provide valuable skills to improve their own Dakota language classes. Register now for this great event!
