They have released of the Dinjii Zhuh Ginjik K'eejit Dęhtł'yaa Online Dictionary as well as the Alaskan Gwich'in Vocab Builder!
This online dictionary represents nearly three years of work, guided by the voices and knowledge of our elder first language speakers and informed by decades of language documentation! We have so much gratitude for everyone who has worked on diiginjik (our language) in the past and on this project to make the online dictionary possible (see Acknowledgements and References online)!
There is audio for nearly every word in the dictionary from the elder speakers (and a couple from youth and second language speakers who participated in the project, but only when first language speakers verified that their pronunciation was clear)!
There are 7,311 words and 15,256 audio recordings available in this first release. This is a "living" dictionary and just a start, we will make corrections as we receive input, which you can provide on every entry!
The Vocab Builder app features over 330 land and home based words to begin expanding your Gwich'in vocabulary through a series of seven interactive exercises! They are organized by category and you can view the interface in either the Gwich'in language or English!
Updates will be added to expand the list of words on an ongoing basis!
