Owóksape, which translates to “learning place” in Lakota, is an online language learning portal devoted entirely to the Lakota language. The first of its kind, Owóksape provides Lakota speaking and learning communities with an innovative and cutting-edge tool for revitalizing and learning the Lakota language. Developed in 2018, Owóksape was envisioned as a way for all interested Lakota learners to learn the language and as an important supplement to conventional language education. Based on leading online language learning practices, Owóksape gives learners the power to be leaders in language-revitalization by bringing language learning anywhere they go.
